Speed Society

As Louisville Collegiate School looks ahead to the next 100 years, it celebrates a spirit of tradition and innovation maintained by caring faculty and staff, beginning in Junior Kindergarten and continuing for a lifetime. Our commitment is to provide a truly inspirational educational experience that provides academic excellence, extraordinary character and confident leadership to excel in life – and to stand out. In order to fund and sustain the exciting endeavors on our campus, we rely on the generosity of our donors who exemplify what it means to “Be Collegiate” and stand out.

Speed Society
By making a planned gift and becoming a member of the Speed Society, you will “stand out” for doing your part to ensure the legacy of Louisville Collegiate School. Named for the school’s founders, Virginia Perrin Speed (1879-1968) and her husband, William Shallcross Speed (1873-1955), the Speed Society consists of individuals and families who make a legacy gift to Collegiate’s planned giving program.

Planned gifts provide you with a variety of benefits which may include life income, continued use of gift property, an avoidance of capital gains tax and immediate tax deduction.

There are several ways to make a planned gift to Louisville Collegiate School.

Bequest
A bequest is a gift made through a provision in your will naming Collegiate as beneficiary. A gift of this type may reduce estate taxes. By notifying the Advancement Office of your gift, we will name you or your family as a member of our Speed Society. There are three common options to consider when making a bequest to Collegiate.

An example of language to include in your will for each option is found below:

Specific Bequest
I, (name), do hereby devise and bequeath to Louisville Collegiate School, a Kentucky not-for-profit organization, located in Louisville, Kentucky, the sum of $100,000 to be used (a) for the benefits of Collegiate as the Board of Trustees may determine; or (b) for a specific purpose, the criteria for which is on file at Louisville Collegiate School.

Percentage Bequest
I, (name), do hereby devise and bequeath to Louisville Collegiate School, a Kentucky not-for-profit organization, located in Louisville, Kentucky, 50% of my estate to be used (a) for the benefits of Collegiate as the Board of Trustees may determine; or (b) for a specific purpose, the criteria for which is on file at Louisville Collegiate School.

Residual Bequest
(a) All the rest or (b) X% of the rest residue and remainder of my estate, both real and personal property, I give, devise and bequeath to Louisville Collegiate School, a Kentucky not-for-profit organization, located in Louisville, Kentucky, to be used (a) for the benefit of Collegiate as the Board of Trustees may determine; or (b) for a specific purpose, the criteria for which is on file at Louisville Collegiate School.

Gifts of Stock
Louisville Collegiate School accepts gifts of stock which enable you to receive significant tax benefits when you give appreciated stocks and bonds. With a gift of stock, you can take a tax donation for the full fair market value of the stock. In addition to a charitable gift tax deduction, a gift of stock offers the extra
benefits of avoiding capital gains tax on your stocks’ appreciation.

Real Estate
By donating property to Collegiate, you may avoid capital gains tax on the sale of a home or other real estate. In addition, your gift is tax deductible for the market value of your property.

Life Insurance
A gift of life insurance can benefit you and the school in many ways. If you name Louisville Collegiate School as owner, you can receive an income tax deduction for approximately the cash value of the policy. If you name Collegiate as beneficiary you will receive an estate tax charitable deduction. Naming Collegiate as
contingent beneficiary allows your family added security.
