Service Learning

Lower School

Community Service plays an integral role in the Lower School’s programs and curriculum. Each grade level selects one organization to support throughout the school year. The focus of holiday parties is centered on the grades respectively chosen organizations. Students also demonstrate a commitment to others in the community through special projects. One specific example includes “The Green Mile,” a walk that first graders and seniors take in an effort to minimize litter in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Community service opportunities include: Caring for the Environment, Humane Society, Veterans, Visually Impaired Preschool and American Printing House for the Blind, Nursing Homes, WaterStep and Kentucky Refugee Ministries.

Middle School

The Middle School maintains an intentional set of structures and programs to support student life and activities. These comprehensive efforts work to create an inclusive and engaging student experience that engages and supports students’ interests, develops meaningful community and complements the Middle School rigorous academic programs.

Upper School

The Upper School provides a wide range of opportunities for students to challenge themselves individually and contribute to the school community overall. Whether students are engaged in clubs, sports, student government, or service efforts, the vast majority of Upper School students find at least one activity to invest in outside of their academic classes. The Upper School is a place where students want to be involved, and there is a healthy student culture encouraging participation.

Community Service opportunities: Me to We Club, Freshmen step-up day, Sophomore service Interim, Junior Edge (GIVE), Senior Service, Class Service Projects, Senate Sponsored events (Gift wrapping for Boys and Girls Club, Help at Cave Hill Cemetery, )and Individual opportunities from outside agencies.
